Frank Gallo is offering a series of birding excursions to include his regular guided Bird Walks, extended Field Trips and an Owl Prowl.

LONG BEACH & STRATFORD COAST,

Long Beach and the Straford Coasts are known for attracting Glaucous and Iceland Gulls, Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, Ipswich Sparrows, and a wide variety of waterfowl, loons, grebes, and lingering shorebirds. $10 per person.
SEABIRD CHASE,

8:30 a.m. (Boat leaves at 9 a.m.)
Join us for another merry seabird chase! Alcids will be are targets. Rare Thick-billed Murres, and Razorbills have entered Long Island Sound in the past week. We’ll be searching for these and other alcids, eiders and other sea ducks, Purple Sandpipers, loons and grebes. January is also a great time for finding Black-legged Kittiwake. Identifying seabirds can be challenging. Frank will share his expertise in identifying seabirds and offer tips to help sort through the confusion. $65 per person (includes ferry tickets).
OWL PROWL, Friday, January 31, 2020, 7-9 p.m.
Tonight is the last chance to find owls in January. Join Frank for an evening in search of Eastern Screech and Great Horned Owls. The walk will be in North Branford. $25 per person.
CT RIVER RAPTORS & WATERFOWL,

The lower Connecticut River from Haddam to Essex is known for harboring a nice variety of wintering birds of prey, from dozens of Bald Eagles, to Northern Harriers, and even Rough-legged Hawks and the occasional Golden Eagle (one has been seen this winter). There is also a fine assortment of wintering waterfowl and landbirds. Frank knows the many nooks and crannies that provide viewing access to the river and the sites that hold wintering landbirds. Join him for a fun morning along the Connecticut River. $10 per person.
BEAVER BOOK PARK, Milford,
Friday, February 7, 2020, 8:30 a.m.
Beaver Brook recently reopened with a new boardwalk and access to some amazing habitat. Our walks this fall and early winter were very productive; Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Winter Wren, and lingering species such as Catbird, Hermit Thrush, and Eastern Phoebe were found. Frank knows all its secret spots for finding wintering landbirds. It’s also a lovely place to walk. $10 per person.

outdoors. Be
prepared for changing
weather
conditions. Sanitary
facilities may
not be readily
available.
Trails
may be over uneven
ground and bathroom
facilities may
not be available.
Plan to be out
in the field
for 4+ hours
for field trips.
Though
not particularly
strenuous, these
programs are
intended for
persons in reasonably
good health and
physical condition.
Participants
must be capable
of walking over
uneven terrain.
Footwear
should
be sturdy. Terrain
may be muddy
and wet. Footwear
should be appropriate
for such conditions.
Be
sure to bring
any personal
necessities such
as sunscreen,
insect repellent,
and drinking
water.
Bring
binoculars!
Participants
must supply their
own but if you
don't have any,
please say so
ahead of time
and we may be
able to loan
you a pair!
Spotting
scopes are recommended
as they can be
very useful for
studying birds
at a distance.
