Spectacular birding amid Mayan Ruins

Info & Registration>

Guatemala is truly something special. This beautiful country offers stunning scenery, friendly people, superb food, wonderful accommodations and fantastic wildlife, not to mention the incredible Mayan ruins of Tikal. Located in the heart of Central America, the country encompasses a wide variety of ecosystems from both Southern Mexico and Central America. More than 720 bird species have been reported in Guatemala with about 370 of them known to breed. To say we were delighted with our first 2 tours to this wonderful country is a complete understatement, we were simply blown away by all that Guatemala has to offer.

Horned Guan. Photo by Steve Bird.Having travelled throughout Central and South America we have to say that Guatemala is a MUST VISIT destination. There are several stunning species to tempt even the most travelled of birders. Pink-headed Warblers are not only fabulous to look at they are actually quite easy to find in the right habitat. There is also the hunt for mythical Horned Guan and our guides have had 100% success at finding this key bird at a site that is only half the steep hike that other tour companies offer.

Imagine Orange-breasted Falcons perching on the Mayan ruins at Tikal, and Morelet's Crocodile in the rivers, while butterflies, dragonflies and a wealth of flora abound. Guatemala offers a world full of contrasts, colonial cities, jungles, volcanoes, archaeological sites but most of all exceptional birding. Join us in what we now consider one of the most beautiful countries in Central America.

Some of the target species possible on this tour:
Horned Guan – Pink-headed Warbler – Goldman’s Warbler – Black Catbird – Resplendent Quetzal – Yucatan Jay- Agami Heron – Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl – Slender Sheartail – Black-throated Shrike-Tanager – Hooded Grosbeak – Azure-rumped Tanager – Ocellated Quail – Orange-breasted Falcon – Grey-throated Chat – Blue-and-white Mockingbird – Buffy-crowned Wood-Partridge – Wine-throated Hummingbird – Lesser Roadrunner – Blue-throated Motmot – Highland Guan – Belted Flycatcher – Rufous Sabrewing – Russet-crowned Motmot – Azure-hooded Jay – Chestnut-sided Shrike-Vireo – Red-capped Manakin – Scarlet Macaw – Garnet-throated Hummingbird – Wedge-tailed Sabrewing – Ocellated Turkey – Tody Motmot plus much more! Maybe even Unspotted Saw-whet Owl !!!
