HARPY EAGLE: The Ultimate Raptor!
Harpy Eagles by Gina Nichol.

Harpy Eagle by Gina Nichol.Autumn is a great time of year for raptor enthusiasts with fall migration in full swing. As many of our North American raptors head south, there is one very large raptor that stays in the rain forests of the neotropics all year round. It is the holy grail for raptor enthusiasts, the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja). One of the largest and most powerful raptors in the world, Harpy eagles are found in Central and South America where they feed primarily on tree dwelling mammals. Rather than soar, they stay perched in the forest canopy waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting sloth or monkey with talons the size of grizzly bear claws!

Finding this majestic bird is not always easy but there ARE places to go that offer the best chances of seeing this species in the wild.

& GUYANA are among these places!

Sunrise Birding is offering the chance to look for Harpy Eagle on these great trips in 2019:

  • PANAMA CANOPY CAMP: 20th Anniversary Special!
