Serbia has rapidly become one of the most talked about birding destinations in Eastern Europe. Why? Because, it is the best place in the world to see Long-eared Owls up close and personal. David Lindo and Milan Ružić who have worked hard for the conservation of these birds at their wintering sites and have brought many birders and owl enthusiasts to experience the wonders of this fabulous destination.

Our tour takes place in the picturesque town of Kikinda in northern Serbia. The main square of Kikinda has been declared by the local government as a nature reserve and hosts huge gatherings of Long-eared Owls during the winter months (up to 800 individuals in some years!). Our boutique hotel is situated right in the heart of the owl action so you'll likely see owls perched in the trees right outside the windows of the hotel.

Watching Syrian Woodpecker in Serbia by Gina Nichol.https://birdswildlife.com/In addition to owl watching, we will spend our time exploring some of the towns and surrounding areas looking for more owls, Great Grey Shrikes, White-tailed Eagle, as well as wintering flocks of Common Cranes and White-fronted Geese. There is also the possibility of finding the majestic, endangered Saker Falcon or a wintering Eastern Imperial Eagle. There will be plenty to keep us busy with reed-fringed ponds, local parks and woodlands to explore (but with not too much walking). Plus, we will never be too far away from a cup of coffee or hot chocolate because most of our birding will be urban based. With some of the best cuisine in Europe and we guarantee that you will leave Serbia beaming! More>
