Top Sightings:
ALL of the surviving Hawaiian endemics on the main islands were seen during this tour.  In addition, below are some highlights:

  • HAWAIIAN PETREL -- Excellent views of a t least 12 birds seen in daylight in display flights and calling
  • BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW -- A bird seen on our Alaska trip in 2008, seen on its wintering grounds in Hawaii!
  • Critically endangered, very restricted, difficult to see endemics:
           PUAIOHI (Small Kauai Thrush), PALILA, MAUI PARROTBILL, AKIAPOLAAU, AKIKIKI, AKOHEKOHE
  • I'IWI -- A stunning drepanid and the poster bird for Hawaii
  • HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL -- A rare marine mammal endemic to Hawaii
