Each year, thousands of Red-breasted Geese migrate from their breeding grounds in northern Siberia to these warmer wintering grounds to the Black Sea coasts of Bulgaria and Romania, a migration of more than 3,700 miles. The winter gatherings of these birds offer a unique spectacle as the birds take advantage of the winter food offerings of the lakes and farmlands of the region.
