Known as the Shorebird Capital of North America, the majestic Delaware bay shore hosts hundreds of thousands of migrating shorebirds that are traveling north each spring. The birds stop along this famed area of the east coast to feed upon horseshoe crab eggs and fuel up for their continued journey north. This mass congregation of birds creates a birding spectacle not to be missed. Thousands of shorebirds whirl and feed on the beaches and can be seen at close range. There are at least twenty species of shorebirds passing through to delight even the most veteran birder!

The shining star amongst all of the long distance migrant shorebirds is the endangered rufa Red Knot, a robin-sized and cinnamon colored bird landing upon the bay shore after flying non-stop for 6000-7000 miles! As the prehistoric horseshoe crabs come ashore to lay their tiny eggs, masses of Red Knot and other shorebirds can be seen feeding voraciously for as far as the eye can see!

Horseshoe Crabs. Photo by Gina Nichol. It has been guesstimated that 85% of the rufa Red Knot population can be found along the Delaware Bay shoreline these few key weeks in May and there is NO OTHER PLACE on Earth to view this wonder of nature!

In addition to prime shoreline habitats, there are two magnificent National Wildlife Refuges - Bombay Hook and Prime Hook NWR and several other viewing areas possible for this spectacle! Our group will have public and private access to more than 200,000 acres of preserved salt and fresh water marshes allowing us to explore a diversity of habitats filled with flora and fauna unlike any other area along the eastern seaboard!

With the help of some local expert birders, this weekend is sure to offer fantastic birding!
Join us to experience this incredible birding spectacle!
