The Atlantic coast of eastern Patagonia and its surrounding arid steppes are two extraordinarily rich and productive areas in terms of wildlife abundance and diversity. The Valdes Peninsula is, by far, the best-known nature preserve in this area, supporting great numbers of marine mammals. This area is home to more than 32,000 Southern Elephant Seals and 8,000 Southern Sea Lions. But it is best known by its cetaceans, with at least 1,000 Southern Right Whales relying on its waters yearly to complete their breeding cycle and its world-renowned population of sea-lion feeding Orcas.

We are pleased to offer this very special tour designed for those who want to experience the beauty and wildlife of Argentina's Atlantic Patagonia with its spectacular shorelines and sprawling steppes. This unique natural history and nature photography adventure that will give you the opportunity to explore and enjoy the vast wilderness of Darwin’s Patagonia with its unique marine birds and mammals colonies. Join us on this mythical journey through mighty Patagonia, home of the Southern Right Whales, Elephant Seals, Magellanic Penguins and so much more!

ITINERARY

Days 1 - 3

Plan to meet at the airport of the Argentine city of Trelew in the afternoon of day 1. We will spend days 2 and 3 exploring the Valdes Peninsula, including a boat trip to see the Southern Right Whale, and visits to Southern Elephant Seal and Southern Sea Lion colonies.

Days 4 & 5
On day 4 we will drive south to Bahía Bustamante, stopping on the way to watch and photograph wildlife. As we travel through the Patagonian steppe, we will have the chance to see and photograph a wide diversity of terrestrial mammals including herds of Guanacos, Mara (also known as Patagonian Cavy), Large Hairy Armadillo and Patagonian Gray Fox to name but a few.
Bahía Bustamante is one of the most spectacular and remote wildlife refuges of eastern Patagonia, offering not only a unique marine wildlife experience, but also a sample of Patagonia’s geological history. Day 5 will be dedicated to explore Bahía Bustamante, enjoying its diverse birdlife and learning about Patagonia’s geological history.

Days 6 - 8
On day 6 we will leave for Puerto Deseado, where we’ll spend the last three nights of the tour.
Here we will have the opportunity to visit Penguin Island. This solitary island is home to the only nesting colony of Rockhopper Penguins on the Atlantic coast of South America, and the estuary of the Deseado River hosts the most incredible array of fauna possibly found outside the Valdes including such unique wildlife as the only nesting colony of Red-legged Cormorant on the Atlantic coast and a resident population of Commerson’s Dolphins.

We will spend days 7 and 8 exploring the estuary of the river, and Penguin Island, mainly by boat.

Day 9
Today we will leave Puerto Deseado in the morning and drive to Comodoro Rivadavia where the tour ends at the local airport.
