Boasting more than 1870 species, Colombia rules the world as the country with the most avian varieties. Sunrise Birding is now offering exclusive, small group tours to this bird-filled country. Tours are led by the country’s BEST guides and can be fully customized for endemics, specialties, and target species and budget to luxury accommodation. The safest and best birding areas are accessible and available to visit through this program including the Central Andes, Western Andes, Eastern Andes, Magdalena Valley, Pacific Choco lowlands, the Eastern Llanos, Amazonia, the Caribbean lowlands, and the famed Santa Marta Mountains.
IS IT SAFE?
Colombia ’s avian richness has long been known but concerns about access and safety have kept birders away. Not so any more. Persistent efforts by the government and military to make the country safe have been highly successful in opening up this wonderful country for travel. Birders are literally flocking to Colombia to see the wealth of birds there.
Sunrise Birding has been carefully following the developments in Colombia and we spent seven weeks on three tours in 2009 to explore birding opportunities and confirm the security of the birding areas and the locations of the birds. Our 2010 tour was a great success and we look forward to visiting Colombia again and again!

WHY SUNRISE BIRDING?
- KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, CONNECTIONS
With a strong knowledge of the country and connections with its ornithological community and guides, we have verified, detailed information about bird locations and the best approach to finding them.
- LOCAL, IN-COUNTRY GUIDES
While many companies send in their own guides, we use in-country guides who are out in the field daily finding new sights and previously unknown birding areas and constantly monitoring the security of all of the birding areas.
- CONSERVATION
Our tours support important conservation efforts in Colombia by visiting not only ProAves Reserves but several other important municipal and private areas.
- BIRDING THE RIGHT PLACES!
Many companies have jumped on the band-wagon offering tours of Colombia mostly opting for the widely advertised reserves and lodges. We’ve found that these are not necessarily the best birding areas (they are just the most publicized).
Now is the time to experience this birding paradise
on your own exclusive birding tour.
