TOUR FULL - Book for next year!

Boasting more than 1870 species, Colombia rules the world as the country with the most avian varieties. Sunrise Birding, LLC has been working with the Colombian government and ornithological community to develop birding tours to this bird-rich country. We spent the better part of 7 weeks exploring the birding prospects in Colombia in 2009 and as a result of these efforts, we are pleased to announce a new Sunrise Birding tour in 2010.

This itinerary features the best areas of Eastern, Central, and Western Andes targeting endemics and specialties such as Gold-ringed Tanagers on Galapagos Road, Yellow-eared Parrots, Chestnut-crested Cotinga, and perhaps Dusky Starfrontlet on the "Road of Dreams" near Jardin, White-mantled Barbet near Victoria ... the list goes on an on.  We'll visit lowland habitats to paramo and everthing in between in search the countries unique species with Colombia's best local guide who enjoys working with small groups to ensure the best possible birding experience. One of the many highlights of this tour will be our visit to Santa Marta on the north coast.  Bordered by the Caribbean Sea in northern Colombia, Santa Marta is a unique area of highly contrasting habitats that include the tallest coastal mountain range on earth in close proximity to lowland habitats stretching to the sea coast.  The area surrounding Santa Marta is a world class hotspot for endemics.  At least 635 bird species have been recorded in the mountains here accounting for an impressive 35% of the whole Colombia avifauna in less than 1.5% of the national territory. The Sierra is the most important endemism center in the world with 36 unique bird species (and 55 subspecies). Eight national natural parks have been established here and 15 IBAs have been setup in the region to protect the numerous specialties and endemics of the area.

There are many birding tours being offered in Colombia and with our experience and connections in the country, we know that this is the best itinerary and best value for the money.  Join Sunrise Birding on a tour of the number one birding country in the world!
